Protective Coatings Site Painting of GRP Tank

Site Painting of GRP Tank

Overview of Project:

Refurbishment of the RO (Reverse Osmosis) Blending Tank, made of a Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) material. The original coating was degrading and would have eventually reduced the glass-reinforced plastic tank life.

Scope of Works:

Install an elevated work platform around the tank, and conduct external cleaning to remove oils, grease, salts and other contaminants while adhering to the Client’s strict policy of no contaminants allowed to discharge into the drain.

Overview of Project:

Refurbishment of the RO Blending Tank, made of a Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) material.

Scope of Works:

Install an elevated work platform around the tank, and conduct external cleaning to remove oils, grease, salts and other contaminants while adhering to Desal Plant’s strict policy of no contaminants allowed to discharge into the drain.

Innovations:

Smart and efficient clean method prior to hand painting. Using scaffold around the tank rather than scissor/EWP, thus providing faster and safer process continuity.

Challenges:

To complete the work ahead of schedule and under budget. Minimise or eliminate air-borne contaminants; no contaminants were permitted to discharge via the drain.

Conclusion/Outcome:

Finalised and completed the painting job in 3 weeks. Our work methods resulted in a 45% cost savings for the client’s project budget. The savings were achieved through a better work method, using a scaffold around the tank rather than scissor/EWP, thus providing better continuity whilst maintaining OH&S. Client’s strict anti-contamination policy was not breached.
